Herb Rich has been a martial artist since 1974, and a practitioner of Tai Chi since 1978, beginning his study of Chen style in 1980.

In 1990 he travelled to China to study with Master Wang Xian at the Chenjiagou school. He returned in 1993 to begin his studies with Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei. Mr. Rich has also studied with Master Geng Xin Hua, Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang, and Master Wang Haijun.

In tournament competition, Mr. Rich was the U.S. Chen Style Champion in 1993, winning first place in all national competitions.

He was chosen as a member of the U.S. Taiji Team which competed at the First International Invitational Taiji Tournament in Fuzhou, China, in 1993, where he won the Award of Excellence for his Chen Tai Chi performance.

Mr. Rich is a formal disciple (tudi) of Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei.

He currently resides and teaches in Beverly, MA.
